You’re invited to the Summer Waterfront Celebration!

On Saturday, July 18th from 2-6pm, you are invited to the Paths to Pier 42 Summer Waterfront Celebration.  Enjoy the breeze on the East River Waterfront, pack a picnic, and participate in activities with the 2015 artist and designers. Free! All are welcome!

ACTIVITIES

All-Day (2-6PM)

Meet the 2015 artists and designers and experience their installations in the park!
Artists Combo Colab (Carolina Cisneros and Mateo Pinto), Stephanie Diamond, Meredith Drum & Rachel Stevens and Leroy Street Studio will be on site, leading workshops and activities.

Fishing Clinics with Lower East Side Ecology Center

Join us for a catch-and-release fishing clinic! Bait and tackle will be provided (or bring your own), plus basic fishing instruction and other activities to explore the estuary.
Fishing Clinics are free and open to the public, thanks to support from NYS DEC Hudson River Estuary Program. Kids under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Materials are limited, so first come first served.
 
Fish Stories Community Cookbook
Share your favorite seafood recipe, and draw fish that swim through our city waters with artists Meredith Drum and Rachel Stevens. fishstories.nyc

Citizen Science Activities with Two Bridges Neighborhood Council
The Albedo Effect: How do sunlight and surface reflectivity affect climate change locally and globally? Learn about the albedo effect through family-friendly science experiments to keep it cool or heat it up!
Water Testing: How safe is our water? Use sample chemistry and biology to determine the health of the water at Pier 42.

Popsicles by City Sticks: free for the first 50 kids!

4PM    Shore of Hope – Part II

Enjoy arts activities for all ages, including a calligraphy workshop and movement exploring the themes of Water and Immigration (for ages 7 and up).

Participating artists: HT Chen and Dancers, Carolyn Hall, Megan Kendzior, Michael Leibenluft, Shirley Luo, Emily Teng, and Lu Yu with the Open Door Senior chorus

Water + Im/migration activities are part of iLAB East River, a collaboration between Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and iLAND – interdisciplinary Laboratory for Art, Nature and Dance.

4:30PM  The Urban Backstage: CSO Theater

​Starts at Pier 42 Welcome Tent
Join one of three walking and talking performances about the city and its relationship to water: travel from Pier 42 to the East River Amphitheater, where ideas about what’s hidden –under our city, and in ourselves– can take to the stage.
Participating artists: Julie Kline, Elliott Maltby, Clarinda Mac Low, Jeremy Pickard, Shawn Shafner, Rachel Stevens.
The Urban Backstage activities are part of iLAB East River, a collaboration between Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and iLAND – interdisciplinary Laboratory for Art, Nature and Dance.

Off-Site Events: Walking and talking explorations to and from Pier 42 

1PM    Pier Ambassadors Listening Party and Walk

Starts at Primitive Church, 209 E Broadway at Clinton Street, lower level 

Never been to Pier 42? Join a celebratory walking tour through the LES and to Pier 42 with artist Stephanie Diamond and the 2015 Pier Ambassadors: six middle-school students who spent ten weeks exploring the Lower East Side to create a tour that tells their own stories.

2PM    The Urban Backstage: Collect Pond Park performance 
Starts at the southern end of Collect Pond Park
The first of three linked walking and talking performances about the city and its relationship to water.
Visit the place where Collect Pond used to be, and imagine the city when it was the primary source of fresh drinking water –and a place of leisure and escape.

Participating artists: Julie Kline, Elliott Maltby, Clarinda Mac Low, Jeremy Pickard, Shawn Shafner, Rachel Stevens.

2:45PM   The Urban Backstage: Wreck Brook / East River Walk 
Starts at Foley Square

The second of three linked walking and talking performances about the city and its relationship to water.
Walk the former site of the Old Wreck Brook from Foley Square to the East River, up to Pier 42, exploring the links between natural water systems and engineering systems.
Participating artists: Julie Kline, Elliott Maltby, Clarinda Mac Low, Jeremy Pickard, Shawn Shafner, Rachel Stevens.

4:30PM  The Urban Backstage: CSO Theater

Starts at the Pier 42 welcome tent

The last of three walking and talking performances about the city and its relationship to water.
Travel from Pier 42 to the East River Amphitheater where ideas about what’s hidden –under our city, and in ourselves– take to the stage.
Participating artists: Julie Kline, Elliott Maltby, Clarinda Mac Low, Jeremy Pickard, Shawn Shafner, Rachel Stevens.
